Vadhoo Island, Maldives

Vadhoo Island, Maldives

The Vaadhoo Island is located on the equator to the SW(South West) of Sri Lanka, in the Indian Ocean of Maldives. Sea-loving couples will fall in love with this place just by looking at pictures. It is a mix of romance with marine life and activities that have never disappointed tourists so far.

But Vaadhoo is not only famous for the glow in the dark beaches. Due to this phenomenon, red algae bloom a lot faster and cause “the red tide”. The beach turns red as it acts like a defense mechanism to distract predators.

How to get there
Vaadhoo is actually a small island (not bigger than 250 x 100 m), making it the perfect honeymoon getaway, but also the ideal escapade for all those looking to spoil themselves and relax far away from the city rush. It is located 8 km away from the airport and you can get there by Motor Dhoni. To get to Vaadhoo, the cheapest and easiest way is to catch the Island Ferry. However, if you are in the capital, know that it takes 1 day to reach Vaadhoo Island.

This phenomena has been called the “Sea of Stars” due to its glowing blue waves. It’s definitely a fantasy-like experience but before you roll over in search for that specific beach in Vaadhoo to see the so-called Sea of Stars, better know more about the beautiful little creatures that cause this unbelievable glowing effect.
